Workshop Summary: The NextGen Control Center Workshop
The AEIC’s Center for Operational Excellence convened utility leaders and industry partners to explore how the NextGen Control Center can improve reliability, resilience, safety, and customer outcomes by unifying data, systems, and people. Participants examined practical pathways to move from siloed monitoring to coordinated, data-driven operations grounded in governance, common architecture, and continuous learning.
Coming Soon: Cloud-Based Service Capitalization Framework
Utilities are increasingly relying on cloud-based software and data services for critical operations, from managing customer information to monitoring the electric grid.
Workshop Summary: Data & Communication Network Strategies
This workshop brought together utility leaders and experts to explore strategies for modernizing grid operations through advanced data analytics and communication technologies. Discussions focused on overcoming real-time data limitations, breaking down data silos, and optimizing cloud and on-premise solutions to improve grid efficiency, resilience, and security.
Using the Integrated System Planning (ISP) framework as a foundation, participants shared best practices for aligning data strategies with grid modernization goals, securing communication networks, and navigating complex regulatory requirements.
Workshop Summary: Data Center Connections: Powering the Data Revolution
This workshop explored strategies to integrate data centers into the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) system in ways that minimize grid strain while upholding long-term reliability and resilience. Discussions centered around both immediate planning and long-range infrastructure needs, framed through the Integrated System Planning (ISP) approach.
Participants shared experiences and strategies to address accelerating data center interconnection requests, grid modernization challenges, and the risks of misalignment between developers and utilities.
Unlocking the Power of Grid Modernization
Modernizing the electric grid requires new approaches to planning and cross-utility collaboration.
Workshop Summary: Integrated System Planning (ISP) Workshop
The purpose of the Integrated Planning (ISP) workshop was to gain insights on best practices around ISP, with a focus on interconnections and load forecasting. Also, to discuss planning outcomes, data exchange, and decision-making processes, to understand the current state of practice, and identify gaps in utility planning.
